Gencirq LLC

Genriq LLC is a spin out of University of California San Diego(UCSD) to commercialise its quorum-sensing Salmonella bacteria, designed to deliver regulated bursts of therapeutic proteins in vivo.

Prof. Jeff Hasty, Director of the BioCircuits Institute at UCSD, along with others, established proof of principle the orally delivered bacteria produced tumor-killing or immune-stimulating proteins in a mouse model of metastatic cancer, placing the bugs at the crossroads of synthetic biology, microbial therapeutics and cancer immunotherapy. UCSD licensed the technology to Gencirq for exploring its potential beyond cancer.

Quorum sensing circuit( contains a transcriptional inducer) is a system for responding to population density that periodically induces lysis of about 90% of the population, releasing the therapies into the surrounding tissue. The lysis circuitry enables to keep bacterial populations levels low and release anything that bacteria can produce without having to engineer a complicated secretion system.
